The first major Minecraft drop of 2026 is here — and while it might look cute on the surface, there’s a lot happening under the hood.

The February 2026 Bedrock Edition v26.0 (1.26.0) update focuses on three big areas:
A full revamp of baby mobs
Meaningful creator and technical upgrades
Important compatibility updates for mobile players
Let’s break down what this means for players, parents, and creators.
🐮 1. Baby Mobs Get a Major Glow-Up
The headline feature of v26.0 is a visual and functional overhaul of baby mobs.
✨ New Models & Textures
Baby versions of:
Cows
Mooshrooms
Pigs
Wolves
Rabbits
Cats
Ocelots
Chickens
Sheep
…now have fluffier, more detailed models and updated textures. They feel more expressive and distinct rather than just “mini versions” of adults.
🔊 Unique Sounds
Baby pigs, cats, and wolves now have their own sounds — adding more immersion (and honestly, more cuteness).
🐰 Rabbit Overhaul
Rabbits received a complete animation, texture, and model refresh, making them feel far more alive in-game.
🥚 Spawn Egg Change (Bedrock Only)
Using a spawn egg on an adult mob now creates a baby version — a helpful change for educators, map-makers, and creative players.
🧟 Baby Undead Drops
Baby zombies, drowned, husks, and zombie villagers now drop items when defeated — making them slightly more rewarding (and slightly less terrifying).
🌊 2. Gameplay & Mob Improvements
While the babies steal the spotlight, several gameplay fixes quietly improve the experience.
🐚 Nautilus Improvements
The Nautilus now has:
New swimming animations
Updated sounds
Improved movement (less getting stuck on blocks)
🐺 Wolf Armor Fix
Wolf armor now aligns properly with the wolf’s body — a small change that fixes immersion-breaking visuals.
🔥 Nether Portal Bug Fixed
Lava can now correctly ignite Nether portals again.
🪓 “Johnny” Is Back
Name a Vindicator “Johnny”, and it will correctly attack all non-illager mobs again — restoring a fan-favourite easter egg.
🐎 Armor Toughness Added
Diamond and Netherite horse (and nautilus) armor now provide proper toughness values, making mounts more viable in survival.
📱 Important: iOS Requirements for 2026
If you (or your child) play on iPad or iPhone, this part matters.
To continue receiving Minecraft updates and access online features:
✅ Minimum Requirement
You must be running iOS 14 or higher.
🔄 App Store Update Required
Minecraft must be updated through the App Store (manual or automatic updates).
⭐ Recommended
For best performance, update to the latest available iOS version.
If a device is too old to update past iOS 14, it may:
Lose access to online multiplayer
Stop receiving new features
Experience compatibility issues
For families and schools using older iPads, this is something to check sooner rather than later.
