Understanding the Recent NDIS Changes: What We Know So Far

Many families within our community have recently reached out with questions about the ongoing changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and whether these changes may affect their ability to access programs and services, including those offered through World of Minecraft.

At this stage, there is still significant information being released and updated by the Australian Government and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). While several reforms have been announced, many of the practical details surrounding eligibility, funding pathways and support categories are still being clarified.

Recent announcements indicate that the NDIS is moving towards a stronger focus on an individual's functional capacity and support needs rather than relying solely on diagnosis-based access pathways. Additional changes relating to planning processes, funding structures and provider requirements are also expected to be introduced progressively from mid-2026 onwards.

As a result, it is possible that some participants may experience changes to how supports are funded or what services can be claimed through their plans in the future. However, at this time, we have not received specific guidance regarding how these reforms may impact participation in World of Minecraft programs. We are actively monitoring updates from the NDIA and relevant government departments and will communicate any confirmed information as soon as it becomes available.

We understand that uncertainty around funding and supports can feel overwhelming for families. Please know that we remain committed to supporting our community through these changes. Our team is staying informed, engaging with sector updates and working closely with families wherever possible to help navigate any future developments.

Importantly, current participants should continue to follow the advice of their Support Coordinator, Plan Manager, Local Area Coordinator or NDIA representative regarding the use of their funding. Existing plans remain active unless otherwise advised by the NDIA.

At World of Minecraft, our focus remains unchanged: creating safe, engaging and meaningful learning environments where children can develop social communication, confidence, creativity and connection through Minecraft.

As we receive further clarification regarding the NDIS reforms, we will continue to keep our families updated.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and support as we navigate these changes together.
